My favorite ride: Chucuyo Waterfall

The Chucuyo waterfall is one of my favorite places, located in the Chirripó region of Pérez Zeledón. Its a wonderful journey to get there by horse, with relaxing scenery and a beautiful waterfall.

The journey starts at the Outpost on top of the mountain in Monterrey de Rivas. The entire round trip takes about 2 and a half hours and there are two different routes to get there, but no route more scenic than the other.

Leading the tour
Take the road down to Chucuyo Valley.

The scenery includes a variety of trees, flowers, birds and even some blackberries, a few rushing river crossings and a house perched atop a boulder!  Between the blooming flowers and the gorgeous river it only encourages a good time.

The things you notice

Once you’ve arrived at the waterfall there are lots of fun activities including: mud facials, relaxing on rocks, snacking, swimming and my personal favorite is drawing with clay rocks. If you are going to swim be warned the water is cold, but after a while you get used to it. There are lots of great picnic spots as well.
